What we collect

We do not offer accounts and we do not run advertising trackers. We process: (a) technical server logs, such as IP address, browser type, requested page and time, kept for up to 30 days for security and troubleshooting; and (b) messages you choose to email us, including your name and address if you provide them.

The tip builder on our contact page runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type there is sent to us unless you email it yourself.

Why and on what basis

Server logs are processed under our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and available. Emails are processed to reply to you and, for tips, to report stories, again under legitimate interest. Where consent is required for optional storage on your device, we ask for it first.

Sharing

We share data only with our hosting and email providers, acting as processors under contract, or where required by law. We do not sell personal data.

Retention

Logs: up to 30 days. Emails: up to 24 months, unless needed longer for a correction record or legal claim.

Under the UK GDPR you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, or object to processing. Write to the address above. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
